Move to East Tennessee. Mountains out the back door.

Knoxville, the Smokies foothills and the Tri-Cities offer something Middle Tennessee no longer can: lower prices and more land with the same no-income-tax advantage. Typical home values run from the $260,000s in Sullivan County to about $450,000 in Loudon County, and most of these counties voted well above the state's 64% Republican share.

Why East Tennessee

A place worth moving for.

1

No Income Tax On Wages

Tennessee does not tax earned income, and a 2014 constitutional amendment bars the legislature from creating one. The Hall tax on interest and dividends was fully repealed in 2021.

2

Lower Home Prices

Knox County's typical home value is about $378,000, compared with about $929,000 in Williamson County near Nashville. In the Tri-Cities it is closer to $260,000–$310,000.

3

Real Jobs

Oak Ridge National Laboratory employs more than 7,000 people and Y-12 about 5,000. Covenant Health, the University of Tennessee, UT Medical Center, DENSO and Clayton are major employers around Knoxville.

4

The Smokies

Great Smoky Mountains National Park drew about 11.5 million visits in 2025, more than twice any other national park. For residents it is a weekend drive, not a vacation.

5

Check The Tax Rate

Knox, Blount and Sevier counties all reappraised in 2026 and have been resetting their rates. Farragut has no town property tax at all. Your agent can confirm the current rate for any address.

6

School Options

Knox County Schools is the third-largest district in Tennessee, with about 58,000 students. Maryville, Alcoa, Oak Ridge, Johnson City and Kingsport all run their own city districts. Every one of these districts was rated Advancing for 2024–25.
