Quick answer: The most conservative cities in America with a real job market and room to grow are concentrated in a handful of states: the Dallas–Fort Worth exurbs, Lubbock and Amarillo in Texas; Naples, Cape Coral and the Panhandle in Florida; Williamson County outside Nashville; Provo and Utah County; Prescott and the East Valley in Arizona; Coeur d’Alene and the Boise suburbs in Idaho; and the north Atlanta exurbs in Georgia. Below are the places our clients choose most, organized by state, with a link to a full town-by-town guide for each.
“Most conservative” can mean a lot of things. For this list we kept it simple and measurable: how the surrounding county votes for president, who controls the state government, and whether the town is big enough to have jobs, hospitals and new housing rather than just a courthouse square. Plenty of tiny rural counties vote ninety percent Republican; they are not on this list because almost nobody can move there and find work. These are the conservative cities and suburbs where families actually land.
Texas
Texas has more conservative cities with a full job market than any other state. The Dallas–Fort Worth exurbs in Parker, Denton, Rockwall and northern Collin counties (Weatherford, Prosper, Celina, Rockwall, Anna) pair solidly Republican counties with the strongest growth corridor in the country. In the Houston area, Montgomery County (The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia) is the conservative anchor. Out west, Lubbock, Amarillo and Midland are among the most reliably Republican mid-sized cities in America, and Tyler anchors deeply conservative East Texas. Florida
Outside South Florida’s big metros, most of the state votes conservative, and a few places stand out. Naples and Cape Coral in Collier and Lee counties are the heart of conservative Florida on the Gulf. The Panhandle (Pensacola, Niceville, Destin) is culturally Deep South and votes like it. St. Johns and Clay counties outside Jacksonville are where relocating families with children land most often, and The Villages in Sumter County is the largest and one of the most conservative retirement communities in the country. Tennessee
Williamson County, south of Nashville (Franklin, Brentwood, Spring Hill), is the most-requested destination in our Tennessee network and one of the most prosperous conservative counties in the Southeast. The ring of suburbs to the east (Mt. Juliet, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Murfreesboro) offers the same access at a lower price. In East Tennessee, Maryville, Farragut and the Knoxville suburbs combine mountains, lakes and a university economy with reliably conservative voting. Arizona
Arizona is a battleground state with deeply conservative regions inside it. Prescott and the Quad Cities in Yavapai County are the most reliably Republican part of the state with a real town around them. In the Phoenix metro, the East Valley (Gilbert, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley) and the far West Valley (Surprise, Buckeye) lean solidly conservative. Lake Havasu City and Kingman in Mohave County vote about as Republican as any county in America. Read the full guide: Best Cities in Arizona for Conservative Families.
Georgia
Atlanta proper leans left, but the exurban ring does not. Forsyth County (Cumming) and Cherokee County (Canton, Woodstock) are two of the fastest-growing conservative counties in America, with Paulding and Bartow (Dallas, Cartersville) the value play to the northwest. The North Georgia mountain towns (Dahlonega, Blue Ridge, Blairsville) are among the most conservative in the state, and the Augusta suburbs in Columbia County draw military and defense families. Idaho
Idaho has been the most moved-to state in America for several years running, and its most conservative communities are its fastest-growing. Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Hayden in Kootenai County anchor North Idaho and draw heavily from Washington, Oregon and California. In the Treasure Valley, Meridian, Eagle, Star and Kuna are the conservative suburbs around a more mixed Boise, with Nampa and Caldwell the value side. Rexburg and Idaho Falls in Eastern Idaho are among the most conservative communities in the country. Read the full guide: Best Cities in Idaho for Conservative Families.
Utah, the Carolinas and the Plains
A few more places belong on any honest list. Provo and Utah County are routinely ranked the most conservative metro area in America among cities of their size. In South Carolina, Greenville and the Upstate, Lexington County outside Columbia, and the Myrtle Beach area vote solidly conservative; in North Carolina, the Lake Norman towns north of Charlotte and the Union County suburbs do the same. Oklahoma City’s suburbs (Edmond, Yukon, Moore), Huntsville and Madison in Alabama, Northwest Arkansas (Bentonville, Rogers), Sioux Falls, and Billings and Kalispell in Montana all combine a reliably conservative electorate with real jobs. We have vetted agents in each of these areas.
What the most conservative cities have in common
- They are suburbs and exurbs, not downtowns. Almost every large city core in America leans left, including in red states. The conservative strength is in the county ring around it.
- They are growing. The places on this list are gaining population, which means new construction, newer infrastructure and, in most cases, rising home values.
- The state government matches. Every state above has a Republican governor and legislature except Arizona and North Carolina, where the legislature is Republican and the governor is not.
- Taxes are lower. Texas, Florida and Tennessee have no state income tax; the rest have flat or low rates and no estate tax.
How Conservative Move helps
Choosing a state is the first decision and choosing the town is the second. The third is finding an agent who knows it, shares your values and will tell you honestly which neighborhoods fit your budget. Conservative Move connects you with a vetted, like-minded real estate agent in the area you are considering. Our referral service comes at no additional cost to you. The agent we introduce pays us a referral fee only when your move succeeds, and represents you under their own separate agreement. If you are also selling a home and do not already have a listing agent, we can connect you with one there too.
