If you are a veteran or military family planning a move to a red state, you have more help available than most civilian buyers. The catch is that the help comes from very different kinds of organizations, and most of the “best veteran relocation services” lists online lump them together as if they all did the same thing.
They don’t. Some are rebate programs. Some are agent networks attached to a lender. Some are relocation matching services. A few, including Conservative Move and its sister brand Military Vet Move, are built specifically around moving to a conservative, veteran-friendly community.
This guide compares the major options so you can pick the right one for the move you are actually making.
Quick comparison: veteran relocation and home buying services
| Service | What it is | Best for | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conservative Move / Military Vet Move | Referral service that matches you with personally vetted, values-aligned agents to sell your current home and buy in a conservative state; coordinates both closings on one timeline | Veterans who want the destination, the community, and the agent to line up with their values | Free; partner agents pay a referral fee at closing |
| Homes for Heroes | Rewards program: participating agents and lenders give back part of their fee after closing | Any eligible hero who already knows where they are moving and wants cash back | Free; you receive a rebate check after closing |
| Veterans United Realty | Agent network operated alongside Veterans United Home Loans, a large VA lender | Buyers who want the VA loan and the agent from one ecosystem | Free to use the network; standard commissions apply |
| VeteranPCS | Matches military buyers with agents who are veterans or military spouses; offers a move-in bonus where state rules allow | Active-duty families on PCS orders | Free; bonus paid after closing where permitted |
| PCS Joes | Directory-style network of veteran and military-connected real estate agents | Buyers who specifically want an agent who has served | Free |
| State veteran housing programs (e.g., Texas Veterans Land Board) | Government loan and land programs for veterans in a specific state | Veterans already committed to one state, layered on top of a VA loan | Varies; loan products, not a service |
How each veteran relocation service actually works
Conservative Move and Military Vet Move
Conservative Move is a licensed real estate referral brokerage founded in 2017 by Paul Chabot, U.S. Navy Commander (retired), and his wife Brenda. Military Vet Move is its sister brand for veterans and military families. Both run on the same vetted agent network.
The service starts with where you are going. You tell us your current state, the states you are considering, and whether you are buying, selling, or both. We match you with a listing agent in your current market and a buyer’s agent in your destination who have been personally vetted for licensing, brokerage, coverage area, track record with our clients, and the values you are moving toward. Both agents work the same calendar so your sale and purchase close in sequence, not in conflict.
Most of our veteran clients use a VA loan, and we connect you with lenders who close VA loans routinely and communicate on a military timeline. After closing, your destination agent introduces you to local veteran organizations, churches, and community groups.
There is no fee to you. Our partner agents pay Conservative Move a referral fee only when your move succeeds, and they represent you under their own separate agreement. Full details are on our licensing and disclosures page.
Where it fits: you are choosing a destination as much as a house, and you want the agent, the lender, and the community to reflect the reasons you are moving. Start on our veteran relocation page or see our best states for veterans guide.
Homes for Heroes
Homes for Heroes is a rewards program, not a relocation service. Eligible heroes (military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers) who buy or sell through a participating agent receive a check after closing equal to roughly 0.7% of the home price, with additional lender, title, and inspection credits if you use their partner specialists. The company reports average savings of about $3,000 per transaction.
Where it fits: you already know where you are moving and you want money back at closing. It does not vet agents for community fit or coordinate a two-state move, but nothing stops you from asking a Conservative Move agent whether they participate.
Veterans United Realty
Veterans United Realty is the agent-matching arm connected to Veterans United Home Loans, one of the largest VA lenders in the country. Agents in the network are experienced with VA financing and long-distance purchases. The obvious advantage is a single ecosystem for loan and agent; the trade-off is that the network exists to serve the lender’s borrowers, so the match is about VA-loan competence, not about the community you are moving into.
Where it fits: you want a VA loan and an agent who has closed many of them, and you are comfortable with the lender relationship driving the match.
VeteranPCS
VeteranPCS connects military buyers and sellers with agents who are themselves veterans or military spouses, and pays a move-in bonus after closing in states where real estate rebates are permitted. It is built around the PCS cycle.
Where it fits: active-duty families moving on orders who want an agent who understands base life and PCS timelines.
PCS Joes
PCS Joes is a network of veteran and military-connected real estate agents. It functions more like a directory than a coordinated service: you find a military-connected agent in your destination and work with them directly.
Where it fits: the most important thing to you is that your agent served.
State veteran housing programs
Several red states run their own veteran housing programs. The best-known is the Texas Veterans Land Board, which offers home, land, and home-improvement loans for Texas veterans that can be used alongside a VA loan. Florida, Tennessee, and other states offer property-tax exemptions for disabled veterans and, in some cases, down-payment assistance through the state housing finance agency.
Where it fits: once you have chosen a state. These are financing tools, not relocation services, and a good destination agent will know how to stack them with your VA loan.
How to choose the right veteran relocation service
Ask yourself three questions:
- Do you know where you are going? If yes, a rebate program or a lender-attached agent network may be enough. If you are still comparing Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Idaho, or the Carolinas, you need a service that helps you choose the community, not just the house. That is what Conservative Move is built for.
- Are you selling as well as buying? Most rebate and directory programs handle one side. If you are selling in a blue state and buying in a red one, you need two agents on one timeline.
- How much does values alignment matter to you? Every service on this list can find you a VA-savvy agent. Only Conservative Move and Military Vet Move vet agents for the values you are moving toward and introduce you to a community when you land.
You can also combine them. A Conservative Move client can still use a VA lender of their choice, apply for a state veteran loan program, and ask whether their matched agent participates in a hero rebate.
Frequently asked questions
Does Conservative Move work with VA loans?
Yes. Most of our veteran clients finance with a VA loan. We connect you with lenders who close VA loans routinely, and your matched agent is briefed that you are using VA financing before your first conversation.
Is Conservative Move only for Texas?
No. We began in Texas in 2017 and now have vetted agents across the country, with the most demand for Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Idaho, the Carolinas, and other conservative states.
Can I use Homes for Heroes and Conservative Move at the same time?
Ask your matched agent whether they participate in a hero rebate program. Conservative Move does not run a rebate, but there is no rule against your agent offering one.
What does Conservative Move cost a veteran?
Nothing. Our referral service comes at no additional cost to you. The agent we introduce pays us a referral fee only when your move succeeds, and represents you under their own separate agreement.
What is the difference between Conservative Move and Military Vet Move?
They are the same company and the same agent network under Chabot Strategies, LLC. Military Vet Move is the entry point built for veterans and military families; Conservative Move serves all families relocating to a conservative state. Either way you get the same vetted agents and the same coordinated process.
Get started by telling us where you are, where you are headed, and whether you are buying, selling, or both. A real person follows up.
