The map of conservative migration has two clear poles. People are leaving the high-cost, deep-blue coasts — led overwhelmingly by California and Washington — and they want to land in Texas, the South, and the Mountain West. Top 15 states people are leaving
California and Washington are in a class of their own — together they account for nearly half of all inquiries that list a home state. The rest of the top of the list — New York, Illinois, Oregon, Colorado, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts — reads like a roster of the nation’s highest-tax, highest-cost blue states. (Texas and Florida appear because some moves are within red states — households leaving expensive metros for more affordable, like-minded communities.)

Out of the coasts, into the heartland
It’s a clean blue-to-red migration. The states people most want to leave lean decisively blue, while the destinations are overwhelmingly red — 12 of the top 15 are solidly Republican, with only Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada (recent swing states) in the mix. The pull runs from the high-cost coasts toward Texas, the South, and a surging Mountain West — where Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and South Dakota all rank among the most-requested landing spots.
Methodology: what this data is and isn’t
“Leaving from” figures are based on the home state provided by more than 2,700 prospective movers who contacted Conservative Move between 2021 and 2026; shares are the percentage of those who provided a home state. “Moving to” figures are based on a survey of more than 1,700 prospective movers who named one or more desired destination states; because respondents may select multiple states, those shares do not sum to 100%. All figures reflect stated intent among a self-selected audience actively seeking a conservative relocation, and are not a representative sample of all U.S. movers.
